Lucette: I made caramel! A full report is coming soon. Granted, no sea salt was involved, but that's going to happen within the next few weeks, I hope...

Rai: Yes! Let's do it! A swap sounds like a most fantastic idea. Although now the thought of waiting until the weather cools down is such a drag!

Oh no!!! I MUST try these. In the nearest foreseeable future. I propose a trade, as I live in Switzerland and am surrounded by chocolate....do you see where this is going? It's going postal, if you get my drift (in a good way of course!) I'd be very happy to swap some local sage or thyme chocolates from my favorite chocolaterie here for some grey salt caramels. My guess is an autumnal swap would be better for lack of melting. Let me know if you are interested. :) mmm chocolate!!!

I'm also a big fan of Fran's Chocolates, especially the caramels, and I've blogged about them, too (see http://vintagecook.blogspot.com/2006/02/chocolate-caramel-and-salt.html
if you're interested). I didn't think to write Fran a love-email, but I wish I had.

Thank you, Molly! You are too kind.

And now I am sitting over here, dizzy with envy and desire - a whole Fran's shop! Minutes from your house! I mean, I've lived in some mighty fine places as you well know (the Gourmet Ghetto, San Francisco's Noe Valley, the East Village) but gazing upon my salted beauties makes me think living near a store full of Fran's chocolates kind of tops them all. Combined. Do you ever go in there and just inhale?

"Hi, can I help you?"
"No, no thanks. I'm just going to stand here and breathe deeply for a moment."
"Um... ok."

The funny thing is, only in very recent years has chocolate (dark in particular) become a big part of my life. And now here I am, my house absolutely chock(ha)-a-block full of it! Nicolette brought me yummy Swedish candy, plus there's Fran's, tons of Valrhona, Haagen Dazs Mayan Chocolate ice cream, a bit of Scharffenberger, Chocovic, Cadbury's, an English Mars bar, some bars of Chuao I don't like but am saving to foist on others who might enjoy... Soon there will be more chocolate than me in this house!

A-MEN! Leah, you are *hilarious,* and as you might expect, I agree with every word. [So predictable, I know.] And I live only a few minutes from an entire Fran's shop, so dear sweet baby Jesus, the supply is inexhaustible. I heart Seattle.

P.S. "It's the most amazing thing you can put in your mouth that isn't attached to someone else's body" - oh BABY.
